This FREE webinar ensures that volunteers can provide a service that is safe for themselves and the person who is self-isolating . There will be a focus on the volunteer Role 'Remote Befriender' and the technologies that are used to do this (e.g. by phone, Skype etc)

This course has been developed in response to the COVID-19 crisis to give new volunteers the training and confidence to start volunteering quickly and safely. (Developed in partnership with #TeamHerts Volunteering and Community Action Dacorum),.

When you volunteer, you will be helping people you’ve never met before and this presents challenges and risks. This webinar trains volunteers in the procedures to follow to provide a service, that is safe for themselves and to the person who is self-isolating . The training covers health & safety advice around reducing the risk of passing on the Coronavirus, good volunteer practice, communication and lone working.
Course content:

  • Guidelines and boundaries specific to this role

  • How to keep the person you are helping safe. In particular, we look at the latest and best guidance on reducing the risk of passing on the Coronavirus.

  • What you should do if you feel that someone may be facing other risks. For example if they do not appear able to look after themselves or they are being neglected.

  • How you can keep yourself safe, according to voluntary organisations procedures for staff and volunteers.

  • Lone working: Coronavirus means that you will be working alone so we look at how you can stay safe whilst working by yourself.

  • Defusing aggressive behaviour. Coronavirus and isolation can create fear, so this may cause some people to feel frustrated and behave in an aggressive way. These procedures equip you with a safety belt for those rare occasions when things do not go smoothly.
