Grant helps kick off new pavilion for local football club

We are delighted to celebrate the official opening of Wheathampstead Wanderers Football Club’s brand-new pavilion, a much-needed facility that will make a real difference to hundreds of young people and their families in the local community.
Wheathampstead Wanderers Football Club provides football opportunities for over 600 children and teenagers across 49 teams. Despite their size and success on the pitch, the club had no permanent welfare facilities — relying on just three portaloos for players, coaches and spectators.

Thanks to a £10,000 grant from Hertfordshire Community Foundation, funded by the generous support of Harpenden Building Society, alongside other fundraising efforts and funding contributions, the club has been able to build a fantastic new pavilion. The new facility includes:

  • Changing rooms

  • Accessible toilets

  • A club training and meeting room

  • A kitchen for serving hot and cold refreshments on match days

Our Grants Manager, Nicky, was delighted to attend the official opening event last month and see first-hand the positive impact this project will have for the club and the wider community.

This project is a fantastic example of how local giving makes local life better. By working together with valued partners like Harpenden Building Society, we’re able to support community organisations across Hertfordshire in creating lasting, positive change.
