Celebrating local communities at the HCF Spring Walk

Over 40 enthusiastic participants gathered in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside at Easneye, Ware on a bright morning on Thursday, 1 May 2025 to raise funds and awareness for a good cause. The spring walk was organised by Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) Ambassador Henrietta Buxton and graciously hosted by Henrietta and her husband, Nicholas Buxton, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire.

The walk, which spanned over five miles, offered participants a chance to enjoy the stunning scenery while supporting the vital work of HCF. As Hertfordshire’s leading independent grant-making charity, HCF uses donations from individuals, families and organisations to support the small charities and voluntary groups that are the backbone of Hertfordshire’s communities — helping those most in need.

Guests also heard from Keely Siddiqui-Charlick, CEO of Sunnyside Rural Trust, one of the wonderful local charities HCF has been proud to support through its grant programmes. Sunnyside does incredible work providing training and work experience for people with learning disabilities, helping them to develop skills in a whole range of rural activities — from beekeeping and caring for chickens to growing plants and produce, landscaping, and garden maintenance. Organisations like Sunnyside demonstrate the real, tangible difference local charities make in people’s lives every day.

Paul Robin, CEO of Hertfordshire Community Foundation, said:
"Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who joined us for the walk and, of course, to Henrietta and Nicholas Buxton for hosting such a wonderful event. These occasions are not only a fantastic way to raise funds, but also help deepen understanding of the challenges our local charities tackle and the vital role they play. With the continued generosity of our supporters, we can help sustain these organisations and make a real, lasting difference to some of Hertfordshire’s most vulnerable residents."
