As temperatures begin to drop, Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) has launched its annual Winter Appeal to provide critical support to the county's most vulnerable residents.
With an increasing number of local families facing financial hardship, the appeal seeks to raise essential funds to help those struggling with the cost of living, particularly in managing rising heating bills and ensuring access to warm clothing, food and shelter.
Recent statistics highlight that over 50,000 Hertfordshire households, including many families, older adults and individuals with disabilities, live in or close to poverty. For these individuals, the cost of staying warm and nourished during the winter months can be overwhelming. HCF’s appeal will direct resources to frontline charities and community groups, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.
"Winter is a particularly challenging time for many in our community," said Paul Robin, CEO for Hertfordshire Community Foundation. "With increased costs for food, fuel and other essentials, some are faced with impossible choices between heating and eating. Our Winter Appeal allows us to work with local charities to alleviate some of this burden, but we need the community's help to help the most vulnerable to stay safe, well and warm during the coldest months. Please contribute in anyway if you can."
Funds raised through the Winter Appeal will be distributed among partner organisations across Hertfordshire. These organisations provide critical services, including emergency food parcels, warm clothing and support for fuel bills. The initiative will also support community hubs offering warm spaces where individuals can gather to escape the cold, connect with others and access essential services.
