In the last quarter of 2019, members from the Daylight Club worked with a photographer, an artist and a writer to create a photo exhibition and photo book.
The project took the group to Paradise Wildlife Park, Verulamium Park and Trestle Arts Base where they took creative photos.
The Daylight Club is a social club for adults with physical and associated disabilities and the project was a fantastic way for the group to learn brand new skills and abilities and make new memories.
The project was made possible thanks to a £3,000 grant from Hertfordshire Community Foundation.
The project culminated with a launch exhibition held on Wednesday 15th January at Trestle Arts Base where the photos, art work and photo book were proudly displayed by the group members.
Ms Salpi Gulbekian of the Daylight Club says, “Our club members have a very mixed range of disabilities, ages and backgrounds and we come together to mutually support each other. This project was a wonderful success and enjoyed by each participant and the leaders. The exhibition was a very proud moment for all of us and we all gained new skills and enjoyed new adventures on the excursions.”
Helen Gray Foundation Director for Hertfordshire Community Foundation said; “It is well known that people living with disabilities often suffer from social isolation, inactivity and related health issues. The Daylight Club’s Camera Action project aimed to address these issues in a fun and engaging way. The photo exhibition and photobook are a wonderful memento of how much they have learned and experienced along the way.”
