Learn how to improve your chances of securing grants from smaller local and national grant makers

Who the course is for:
With many funders only able to award a grant to 1 in 10 applicants, your application needs to stand out.
This course is for those new to fundraising and those with some experience who want to develop, refresh or improve their skills.
It will focus on smaller funds (under £10,000). Those booking a place should have completed HCF’s Get Fit for Funding and Creating a Fundable Project courses (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate their experience in fundraising.

Course Content:

Using a combination of theory, group work and practical exercises, this half day session will help you understand:
  • Key sources of grants – Trusts, Foundations, The National Lottery Awards for All, local authority grant schemes

  • How to research, plan and prepare your grant application

  • The 6 things you’ll need to include in every application

  • Achieving success – best practice, top tips, common mistakes



Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session you will be able to:
  • Identify sources of information on grant makers and identify potential funders for your organisation/project

  • Describe the key characteristics of strong applications and common reasons for rejection

  • Understand the importance of relationships with your funders and how to build them

  • Develop a basic fundraising list for your organisation


(Attendees may submit a current draft application to the trainer in advance – it will be used as a live example and will help to refine it)

Kate Newton has over 12 years’ experience in the voluntary sector. She has supported hundreds of organisations to develop a shortlist of targeted funders and to write excellent applications.
