Support charity for the visually impaired receives £5,000 community grant
Herts Vision Loss, formally Hertfordshire Society for the Blind, has received a significant boost thanks to a grant of £5,000 from Hertfordshire Community Foundation.
The funds will help the charity provide in-home counselling services to empower and support people with visual impairment or blindness.
Joanna Carter, Chief Executive Officer for Herts Vision Loss said; “Until now we have been unable to provide counselling to help those who cannot access transport to our centres or who are too isolated or fearful of leaving the house. This money, alongside other funding, will help cover the costs of running an in-home counselling service specifically targeted at those who are house bound but who would benefit from counselling aimed at addressing fear, isolation and depression. It also helps people come to terms with the devastating effects of sight loss. With thanks to our generous funders, we can help these people improve their well-being, reduce their social isolation and perhaps work up to going out to social groups, events or do their own shopping.”
Jonathan Aves, Foundation Director for Hertfordshire Community Foundation said; “We are very pleased to be able to provide this funding to Herts Vision Loss. The project helps people when they are at their most vulnerable and going through very difficult adjustments. Counselling can help them to feel more comfortable and confident, ultimately improving their overall quality of life, which is essentially what the Foundation is all about.”
