Wheelchair user was struggling to pay his heating costs

Tom* is in his forties and is disabled. He lives alone in a one-bedroom flat which has high ceilings so takes a lot of heating.
He spends most of his time in a wheelchair and as he can’t move around to keep his body warm he really feels the cold at this time of year. He has to wash and dry his bedding every day so he uses a lot of electricity, especially for the tumble dryer.

Tom is on a limited income, much of which goes towards the cost of care and support at home to help him manage. He was struggling to pay his heating costs and was relying on his credit card to do so, getting further and further into debt.

Tom was provided with a £150 grant allowing him a reprieve from covering his energy costs and not getting himself into further debt by using a credit card.
