A practical course that will help to improve your chances of winning larger grants and contracts (over £10k). We will work through a toolkit to help you achieve results, with a combination of trainer input and practical exercises. Please come prepared to actively engage in the training session.

Who the course is for:
This course is for those involved in fundraising who are preparing for, or working on, a live bid (£10k+) and/or those who have had a recent bid rejected and wish to understand how to improve their chances in the future. Those attending should have completed HCF’s Writing Grant Applications: Practical tools for Success! course or equivalent and have some practical experience of writing bids/applications.

Course content:

This course will walk you through:
  • How to research and prepare your bid/application

  • Evidencing need and gathering information

  • Writing high scoring answers to meet funders’ criteria

  • How to decide which tenders are right for you

  • How to tender for contracts (e.g. with Hertfordshire County Council)

  • Creating a bid plan to manage your time and resources

  • How to win – best practice, top tips, common mistakes



Learning Outcomes:

Participants completing this course will be able to:
  • Identify and evaluate potential sources of income

  • Describe what is required to score highly and win applications and contracts

  • Know how to improve their own bids and applications


Trainers:

Kate Newton is an inspirational trainer and has over 12 years’ experience of supporting hundreds of organisations to get started on their fundraising journey, successfully secure funding and thrive.
Jacquie Hime, previously Director of North Herts CVS, is now an independent consultant supporting clients with applications and providing training on fundraising and governance. She has a successful track record of applying and reporting for grants and contracts.
