Writing grant applications - Practical tools for success!

Learn how to improve your chances of securing grants from smaller local and national grant makers, focussing on smaller funds (under £10,000). This will be an interactive online course, with practical tools and tips that you can take away and use in your current grant applications straight away. Please come prepared to actively engage in the training exercises. A Post-Course workbook will be provided.

Who the course is for:
This course is at an intermediate level, for those still new to fundraising or with some experience- who want to develop, refresh, or improve their skills. We would advise those booking a place to have completed HCF’s ‘Beginner’s Guide to Funding Applications’ (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate some experience in fundraising.

Course content:

Using a combination of theory, group work and practical exercises, this session will help you understand:
  • How to research, plan and prepare your grant application

  • The 6 things you should be including in every application as part of your case for support.

  • Achieving success – best practice, top tips from HCF, common mistakes



Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session you will be able to:
  • Describe the key characteristics of strong applications

  • Understand the common reasons for rejection of applications

  • Understand the 6 things you should include in every application and have drafted out skeleton answers for your organisation or project

Kate Newton is an inspirational trainer and has over 12 years’ experience of supporting hundreds of organisations to get started on their fundraising journey, successfully secure funding and thrive.
