Many charities will be adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and good governance will be crucial in responding to the crisis. During these uncertain times, strong leadership will be vital in ensuring sustainability for local organisations.

Good Governance during COVID-19 and beyond is a series of webinars under our Better Boards programme, to improve the effectiveness of Hertfordshire’s voluntary sector, to help aid response & recovery during COVID-19. If a charity is well run, they will be more likely to meet the growing demand for services in Hertfordshire.

'Minute Taking' is intended to provide guidance for trustees or staff who are responsible for planning agendas & minute taking.

Course content:
'Minute Taking' will cover:
  • Why are minutes needed?

  • The legal requirements of taking minutes

  • How to plan an effective meeting schedule

  • Prepareing the agenda

  • Making minutes more concise

  • Examples & templates

  • Common problems



Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course you will:
  • Understand the importance of minute taking as a legal requirement in various circumstances

  • Understand that agendas need to be carefully planned to ensure that meetings are productive, logical and effective

  • Understand what paperwork you as a minute taker should bring to the meeting

  • Understand what needs to be included in the minutes and ways of making minutes more concise

  • Appreciate the need to produce the minutes in an attractive format so they are read

  • Receive a number of template forms that you can adapt and use.



Trainer:
All our interactive, online courses will be led by one of our experienced Better Boards trainers or in collaboration with Impactful Governance, a Hertfordshire based governance training provider.

'Minute Taking' will be led by Robin Hodgkinson. Robin is a freelance voluntary sector trainer and consultant, and HCF Training & Development Better Boards trainer.
