Many charities will be adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and good governance will be crucial in responding to the crisis. During these uncertain times, strong leadership will be vital in ensuring sustainability for local organisations.

Good Governance during COVID-19 and beyond is a series of webinars under our Better Boards programme, to improve the effectiveness of Hertfordshire’s voluntary sector, to help aid response & recovery during COVID-19. If a charity is well run, they will be more likely to meet the growing demand for services in Hertfordshire.

Who the course is for
'Is your strategy fit for purpose?' is intended to support Chairs, trustees, CEO's and senior staff who are interested in strategy development. You will be invited to review the purpose of your charity and to consider whether your strategy is still robust.

Course content:
'Is your strategy fit for purpose?' will cover:
  • A review of the charity governance code and the role of trustees in strategy development

  • Defining terms such as 'purpose’, ‘values’, 'strategy’ and ‘operational plans’

  • Carrying out an exercise to check the robustness of your charity’s purpose

  • Learning a straightforward method for reviewing your strategy to check that it is fit for 2020.



Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course attendees will :
  • Have had time and space to concentrate on strategy

  • Have an understanding of the terminology used around strategy

  • Have considered their charity’s purpose

  • Have a view as to whether their strategy is fit for purpose, needs a review at a future date or needs some urgent work.



Trainer:
All our interactive, online courses will be led by one of our experienced Better Boards trainers or in collaboration with Impactful Governance, a Hertfordshire based governance training provider.

'Is your strategy fit for purpose?' will be led by Vivianne Child. Vivianne is a freelance voluntary sector trainer and consultant, and HCF Training & Development Better Boards trainer. Vivianne is also Enterprise Director for Tring Together.
