Carers Week (11 -17 June) aims to highlight the physical and mental strain felt by unpaid carers and how some people are suffering from a lack of sleep, feelings of isolation or are neglecting their own health and well-being
HCF are pleased to have been able to recently fund a transition project, led by Carers In Hertfordshire, to help young carers (aged 15 to 19) to access opportunities for work experience, career guidance and further education and training.
The short term objectives of the project are to help young carers grow in confidence and resilience and to assist them to make positive choices about their future. These choices will include the choice about whether they continue in a caring role, leave home or seek employment. The longer term goals are to reduce young carer’s risk of not in being in education, employment or training by the time they reach 19 years of age.
The £10,056.99 grant funded the following: - A work experience offer that matches young carers with a quality work experience opportunity that takes into account their aspirations and caring role
- A series of four workshops focused on training and advice
- One to one support from young carers support workers to help the whole family to access services and support
